LEON, Ind. -- Senior Sawyer Glick poured in 29 points and classmate Clint Cunningham came off the bench to add 22 points and a game-high 13 rebounds Saturday night (Feb. 2), leading the Class 4A No. 3 Columbus North boys basketball team to a 90-45 rout of East Central.
Senior Tori Jackson chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 18-1 and won their 14th game in a row. Senior Paul Salee and sophomore Josh Speidel each contributed eight points for the winners.
Junior Howie Backherms netted team highs of 10 points and five rebounds for the Trojans (8-9).
Columbus North jumped to a 14-8 lead in the first quarter, then poured it on in the second quarter to more than double up the hosts at 41-20 at the half.
The Bull Dogs continued to roll to a 68-29 advantage at the third stop, then cleared the bench while maintaining control over the final eight minutes.
CN dominated in multiple facets -- outscoring East Central 22-8 in transition, 36-12 from the 3-point line and outrebounding the Trojans 45-26.
Glick's performance was fueled by 12-of-18 shooting, including 5-of-11 from long distance. Cunningham sank 9-of-15 from the field, including one 3-pointer, plus 3-of-4 free throws.
Columbus North also won the JV game 50-46. Junior Nick Littrell scored 15 points, sophomore Kooper Glick added 14 points and sophomore Trent Larson had 10 points to pace the Bull Dogs, who broke a 35-35 deadlock after three quarters to prevail. Dakota Gibbs tossed in a game-high 17 points for East Central.
The Columbus North freshman were to have played in the CN Freshman Invitational earlier in the day, but inclement weather forced postponement of those games. It was undetermined late Saturday whether those games will be rescheduled.
Columbus North is back in action next Saturday (Feb. 9) when it visits Franklin. The JV game is set for 1 p.m., and the varsity game will follow about 2:30 p.m.
