Home » Boys' Basketball NewsColumbus North boys basketball uses balance to beat Bloomington South 70-60February 2, 2013 Columbus North High School BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Sophomore Josh Speidel scored a game-high 17 points to lead a balanced attack Friday evening (Feb. 1), sparking the Class 4A No. 3 Columbus North boys basketball team to a 70-60 victory at Bloomington South.
Junior Evan Henry added 16 points, senior Sawyer Glick chipped in 13 points and senior Tori Jackson contributed 12 points as the Bull Dogs improved to 17-1 overall and 5-1 in Conference Indiana.
Junior Isaiah Gooch and freshman Tucker Blackwell each scored 12 points to pace the Panthers (7-8, 2-4).
Columbus North took a 17-14 lead at the first stop, then used a strong second quarter to push its edge to 37-15 at the half. The Bull Dogs pushed the count to 49-34 in the third period before the Panthers rallied to trail 51-41 at the third stop. CN then held on in the final period to record its 13th consecutive triumph.
Speidel also notched a team-high six rebounds, while Henry and senior Clint Cunningham each grabbed five boards. Cunningham also tallied a game-high four assists, while Glick had a game-high three steals.
The Bull Dogs also won the JV game, sophomore Trent Larson pouring in a game-high 27 points on 9-of-10 shooting in the 58-48 decision. Junior Christian Glass chipped in 12 points and sophomore Marquis Humes had six points for CN. Nick Elliot topped Bloomington South with 12 points.
Columbus North returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 2) when it travels to East Central. The JV game will begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity will follow about 7:30 p.m.
The Columbus North freshman team also hosts its annual four-team invitational on Saturday (Feb. 2). First-round games begin at 9 a.m. in the Bill Stearman Athletic Complex. Consolation and championship games follow about 10:30 a.m.
