Home » Girls' Basketball NewsColumbus North girls basketball beats Bloomington North 59-31January 27, 2013 Columbus North High School COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Sophomore Ali Patberg scored 18 points and senior Hanna Ballard added 16 points Saturday (Jan. 26), leading the Class 4A No. 1 Columbus North girls basketball team to a 59-31 victory over visiting Bloomington North on Senior Day.
Junior Tayler Goodall contributed 10 points for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 22-0 overall and clinched an undisputed Conference Indiana championship at 7-0. Junior Emmy Schabel chipped in six points, and junior Kelsey Cunningham had three points.
Junior Alyssa Sampson scored 11 points to pace Bloomington North (7-12, 0-7).
Ballard celebrated Senior Day by scoring 11 points in the first quarter as Columbus North jumped to an 18-6 advantage. Patberg netted eight points and Goodall added four points in the second quarter as the Bull Dogs pushed their advantage to 36-17 at the half. Patberg scored seven and Schabel had six in the third quarter as CN pushed the count to 50-23.
Columbus North made eight 3-pointers in the game (Ballard three, Schabel two and Cunningham, Goodall and Patberg one apiece), pushing its team season total to 112 and breaking the school single-season record. The previous record was 104 3-pointers in 2005-06.
In the JV game, freshman Emma Ballard scored nine points and sophomore Sheyanne Street tallied seven points as Columbus North prevailed 39-14. Sophomore Megan Bandy contributed six points, while Jessica Wagers chipped in five points as the Bull Dogs improved to 16-0. Sophomore Emily Garraux topped the Cougars with five points.
Earlier, the Columbus North freshman girls won two games in the Columbus North Invitational. CN defeated Columbus East 37-20 in its opener, then followed with a 38-20 victory over East Central.
Allison Bates scored 14 points, Emily Kim tossed in nine points and Lauren Imlay netted six points as the Bull Dogs overcame an early deficit to get past the Olympians. Bryn Eudy scored 12 points and Lyric Jackson had four points for Columbus East.
In CN's second game, Kara Linn scored 11 points, Makayla Caudill contributed seven points and Imlay had six as the Bull Dogs (14-1) jumped on top quickly and rolled to the victory. Sierra Preston led the Trojans with five points.
In other freshman tournament games, Bedford North Lawrence defeated Center Grove 36-22 and Bloomington South edged Bedford North Lawrence 45-43 in overtime.
Columbus North returns to action on Thursday when it closes its regular season with a tripleheader at Jennings County. JV and freshman games begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows the JV about 7:30 p.m.
