Home » Boys' Basketball NewsJackson, Henry lead Columbus North boys basketball past MadisonJanuary 19, 2013 Columbus North High School MADISON, Ind. -- Senior Tori Jackson and junior Evan Henry each scored 20 points Friday night (Jan. 18), leading the hot-shooting Columbus North boys basketball team to an 88-57 rout at Madison.
Sophomore Josh Speidel and seniors Clint Cunningham and Paul Salee each added 10 points for the Class 4A No. 5 Bull Dogs, who improved to 13-1 while firing a sizzling 69 percent from the field (37-of-54) for the game. Junior Elliott Welmer chipped in nine points and senior Sawyer Glick netted seven points.
Carson Wattenbarger scored 16 points and Matt Woolard tallied 14 to pace the Cubs (6-6).
The teams went back and forth through the first quarter with Columbus North taking a 22-20 edge at the first stop. The Bull Dogs used a strong second quarter to claim a 42-29 lead at the half, then pushed their advantage to 65-46 at the end of three quarters. CN continued to pull away in the fourth period, outscoring the hosts 23-11 over the final eight minutes.
Jackson finished with a double-double for the Bull Dogs, grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds to go with his 20 points. He also was virtually unstoppable in the paint, making 9-of-10 field goals. Henry made 8-of-10 shots, including 3-of-5 3-pointers, and contributed a game-best five assists plus three steals to the cause.
Included in CN's shooting blitz was a 67 percent effort (12-of-18) from 3-point range. Junior Elliott Welmer joined Henry in going 3-of-5 beyond the arc, while Cunningham, Salee, Jackson and senior Sawyer Glick also made shots from downtown.
Columbus North also won the JV game 59-40. Junior Christian Glass scored 22 points to lead three Bull Dogs in double figures. Sophomore Kooper Glick netted 17 points and classmate Trent Larson had 11 points. Kyle Tucker topped Madison with 15 points.
There was no freshman game against Madison.
The Bull Dogs return to action on Saturday (Jan. 19) when they visit Perry Meridian for a Conference Indiana tripleheader. JV and freshman games begin at 6 p.m. The varsity follows the JV about 7:30 p.m.
