Home » Girls' Basketball NewsColumbus North girls basketball tops Bloomington South 52-32January 19, 2013 Columbus North High School BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Sophomore Ali Patberg scored 17 points and junior Tayler Goodall netted 15 points Friday night (Jan. 18), sparking the Class 4A No. 1 Columbus North girls basketball team to a 52-32 victory over Bloomington South.
Senior Hanna Ballard chipped in 10 points for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 20-0 overall and 6-0 in Conference Indiana while setting a school-record with its 20th consecutive victory. That eclipsed a previous streak of 19 straight wins last season.
CN also has won 39 of its last 40 games. The Bull Dogs also clinched a share of the Conference Indiana title. They can clinch an outright championship with a win next Saturday (Jan. 26) at home against Bloomington North.
Junior Lauren Whitlatch scored 10 points to pace the Panthers (10-5, 3-3).
Bloomington South took an 8-6 lead in the first quarter, but Columbus North used a 20-8 second-quarter burst to take a 26-16 edge at the half. Goodall scored eight points in the second quarter, while Ballard tallied seven and Patberg had four.
The Bull Dogs extended the count to 38-24 at the third stop, Goodall, Ballard and Patberg each scoring three points in the third. CN then close out the game with a 14-8 edge in the final period, Patberg going 6-of-8 from the line, Goodall going 4-of-4 at the line and sophomore Emmy Schabel dropping in a 3-pointer.
Columbus North also captured the sub-varsity games.
Freshman Elle Williams scored 12 points and sophomore Macy Wingham tallied nine points as the Bull Dogs (14-0) took the JV game 45-22. Sophomore Megan Bandy and freshman Emma Ballard each chipped in six points, and freshman Paige Littrell had four points. Freshman Megan Grabowski topped Bloomington South with six points.
In the freshman game, Lauren Imlay and Connor Keaton each scored nine points to pace CN to a 34-17 decision. Makayla Caudill contributed eight points, while Katie Carlson chipped in six points. Ashlynn Fox led the Panthers with seven points.
Columbus North returns to action on Tuesday (Jan. 22) with a tripleheader of games at home. The varsity and JV face Whiteland, while the freshman team plays Center Grove. The JV and freshman games begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows the JV about 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday is "EBL Night" in Memorial Gym with players and coaches from Columbus' 11 elementary basketball league teams recognized at halftime of the varsity game.
