Home » Boys' Basketball NewsColumbus North boys basketball beats Mooresville 58-43January 11, 2013 Columbus North High School COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Junior Elliott Welmer scored 15 points to lead three players in double figures Friday night (Jan. 11), pacing the Class 4A No. 7 Columbus North boys basketball team to a 58-43 victory over visiting Mooresville.
Junior Evan Henry added 14 points and senior Sawyer Glick contributed 13 for the Bull Dogs, who used a strong perimeter game to improve to 12-1 in the non-conference contest.
Junior Jacob Johnson tallied a game-high 21 points for the Pioneers (2-7).
With Mooresville clogging the middle, Columbus North looked to its outside game to make a difference. Welmer and Glick each sank three 3-pointers, Henry hit two and sophomore Josh Speidel (six points) made one en route to the triumph.
The Bull Dogs led 15-11 after one quarter and pushed their advantage to 32-19 at the half. The Pioneers cut the deficit slightly to 42-31 at the third stop before CN pulled away over the final eight minutes.
Columbus North also won both sub-varsity contests.
Sophomore Vince Grana scored 15 points and junior Christian Glass netted 12 as the Bull Dogs won the 60-36 in the JV game. Sophomore Kendrick Underhill paced Mooresville with 12 points.
In the freshman game, CN's Collin Lollar sank five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 19 points in a 30-18 victory. Alex Algee added five points and Drew Schoeberl had three for the Bull Dogs. Cameron Harris led the Pioneers with five points.
Columbus North returns to action next Friday (Jan. 18) when it visits Madison. JV and freshman games each begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity game follows the JV about 7:30 p.m.
