Home » Boys' Basketball NewsColumbus North rallies past Jennings County 64-56 in boys basketballJanuary 6, 2013 Columbus North High School NORTH VERNON, Ind. -- Sophomore Josh Speidel scored 14 points to lead four players in double figures and the Class 4A No. 8 Columbus North boys basketball team used a strong fourth-quarter comeback Saturday night (Jan. 5) to rally past Jennings County 64-56.
Senior Tori Jackson and junior Elliott Welmer each added 13 points for the Bull Dogs, who overcame a 46-43 deficit after three quarters to improve to 11-1. Junior Evan Henry contributed 11 points and senior Sawyer Glick netted nine for CN, which used a 21-10 fourth-quarter edge to pull out the decision.
Brad Hunt and Tommy Taylor each scored 15 points for Jennings County (8-5). Bailey Sanders pitched in 14 for the Panthers.
Columbus North took a 15-13 lead in the first quarter, but the hosts rallied for a 29-24 edge at the half. Jennings County maintained its lead through the third quarter, but the Bull Dogs used a fourth-quarter burst to take control and held on to prevail.
Jackson grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for Columbus North. Glick added six rebounds, while Henry and Speidel each pulled five boards. Hunt had eight rebounds for Jennings County.
In the JV game, junior Christian Glass scored 18 points and sophomore Kooper Glick added 16 as Columbus North rolled to a 55-33 victory. Sophomore Trent Larson chipped in 10 points, while sophomore Vince Grana and freshman Mitchell Kelley each had four points for the Bull Dogs. Tyler Campbell paced Jennings County with nine points.
At the freshman level, Alex Algee scored 11 points to lead CN to a 38-30 win over the Panthers. Collin Lollar and Drew Schoeberl each chipped in eight points for the Bull Dogs (3-5), who used a 19-7 second-quarter burst to break the game open. Trevor Milligan topped Jennings County with 12 points.
Columbus North returns to action on Friday (Jan. 11) when it hosts Mooresville. The JV and freshman games begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity game follows the JV about 7:30 p.m.
