Anderson cited as MVP of Columbus North girls golf
November 13, 2012
Columbus North High School Sophomore Sydney Anderson was recognized as MVP of the Columbus North girls golf team at the squad's season-ending gathering on Nov. 7.
Anderson, who averaged 76.55 strokes in nine 18-hole rounds, placed 11th in the IHSAA state meet with a two-round score of 77-74--151.
Senior Emily Morris was selected winner of the team's Bull Dog Award. Morris averaged 84.42 strokes in seven 18-hole rounds as the Bull Dogs posted an 11-1 dual meet record and advanced to the regional -- just missing out on a state-meet appearance as a team.
Morris, also recognized as the team captain, was one of five athletes who earned varsity letters. The others were Anderson, junior Lauren Backmeyer, sophomore Morgan Deis and junior Samantha McQueen.
Those honored as JV team members were sophomore Rachel Davis, freshman Paige Grider, sophomore Madison Pearson and sophomore Madison Smith.
During the season, Anderson, Morris, McQueen and Backmeyer earned first-team all-Conference Indiana accolades by placing in the top 10 of the conference meet.
