Home » Girls' Basketball NewsColumbus North girls basketball tops Martinsville 66-39November 9, 2012 Columbus North High School MARTINSVILLE, Ind. -- Sophomore Ali Patberg and juniors Tayler Goodall and Kelsey Cunningham each scored in double figures Friday night (Nov. 9), lifting the Class 4A No. 2 Columbus North girls basketball team to a 66-39 season-opening victory at Martinsville.
Patberg tallied a game-high 20 points on eight field goals and 4-of-4 free throws, while Goodall added 14 points on four 3-pointers plus a 2-pointer. Cunningham chipped in 11 points on four baskets, including a 3-pointer, plus 2-of-3 free throws.
Senior Hanna Ballard contributed eight points and Hannah Poindexter had six as the Bull Dogs outscored the host Artesians in each of the four quarters.
Senior Cailin Nix paced Martinsville (0-1) with 13 points. Classmate Gracie Elliott netted seven points, while junior Gabby Fisher and sophomore Morgan Peeden each had five.
Columbus North also won the JV game 38-24. Sophomore Jessica Wagers tallied eight points and sophomore Macy Wingham had seven to lead Columbus North. Peeden had eight points and sophomore Ciara England netted seven for Martinsville.
The Bull Dogs return to action next Friday (Nov. 16) when they host Franklin Central in their first Conference Indiana encounter of the season. JV and freshman games begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows the JV at about 7:30 p.m.
