Home » Girls' Basketball NewsColumbus North outscores Brownstown in girls basketball scrimmageNovember 7, 2012 Columbus North High School COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Three players scored in double figures Tuesday night (Nov. 6) as the Columbus North girls basketball team outscored visiting Brownstown Central in a scrimmage in Memorial Gym.
Although the scoreboard was reset to 0-0 to start each period, junior Tayler Goodall and sophomores Ali Patberg and Jessica Wagers each scored 14 points as the Bull Dogs amassed an 81-28 edge when the four varsity quarters were totaled.
Riley Wischmeier paced the Lady Braves -- who played without two regulars because of injuries -- with eight points.
Senior Hanna Ballard and junior Kelsey Cunningham each contributed eight points and freshman Paige Littrell had six for the Bull Dogs, who posted advantages of 23-10, 21-4, 23-8 and 14-6 in the four varsity quarters that were 12-minute running-clock periods with specific defensive rules for each.
Patberg added 10 assists to finish with a double-double, while Goodall chipped in seven assists and a team-high five rebounds. Columbus North shot 50 percent for the game (26 of 52), while Brownstown Central was limited to 18 percent from the field (7 of 38).
The teams also played a fifth quarter exclusively with JV players. Sophomore Sheyanne Street scored four points as Columbus North won that quarter 10-4. Wagers, sophomore Macy Wingham and freshman Emma Ballard each added two points in the period.
Columbus North opens its season on Friday (Nov. 9) when it travels to Martinsville. The JV game will begin about 6 p.m., and the varsity will follow about 7:30 p.m.
The CN freshman team begins its season Nov. 16 as part of a tripleheader (freshman, JV and varsity games) at home against Franklin Central.
