Columbus North volleyball struggles at Columbus East Invitational

Columbus North High School COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Sophomore Janelle Peters recorded 14 kills while classmate Makinsey Summa added 13 more on Saturday (Oct. 6), but the Columbus North volleyball team went 0-4 in the Columbus East Invitational.
The Bull Dogs dropped matches in straight sets to Class 4A No. 3 Avon (25-14, 25-10), Jasper (25-18, 25-18), Bedford North Lawrence (25-21, 25-16) and Harrison of West Lafayette (25-23, 25-16).
Sophomore Karen Wildemann contributed 12 kills for CN, which saw its season record fall to 9-22. Senior Quin Shoultz provided eight kills and 43 assists.
Defensively, Summa produced eight blocks while sophomore Alexa Pelley notched a team-best 27 digs. Wildemann added 23 digs, while Shoultz had 17 digs.
Host Columbus East won the eight-team event. The Class 4A No. 4 Olympians knocked off Avon 25-21, 25-22 in the championship match.
Other placements included Franklin over Jasper for third, 4A No. 6 Shelbyville over Bedford for fifth and Harrison over Columbus North for seventh.
The Bull Dogs are back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 9) when they host Southport in their final conference match of the season. CN also hosts Seymour at 7 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 11) in their final regular-season match.
