Columbus North, Carmel tie 1-1 in top-10 boys soccer matchup
September 29, 2012
Columbus North High School CARMEL, Ind. -- Junior Will Bridgeman scored in the early going, and the Class 2A No. 6 Columbus North boys soccer team hung on for a 1-1 draw at 2A No. 1 Carmel.
The result gives the Bull Dogs a 10-1-4 final regular-season mark heading into their sectional opener at 6 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 3) against Seymour at the Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.
CN played much of the game down a player after a hand-ball was called inside the penalty box. Carmel (11-0-4) capitalized on that situation for a penalty-kick goal by junior Erik McDougal, but the Bull Dogs didn't allow another goal the rest of the way despite playing 10 vs. 11.
Columbus North coach Andy Glover praised defenders McClain Goggin, Mason Engel, Hugh Hamill and Robbie Hughes for their effort, while Bridgeman and Reid Wilson also provided solid performances.
