COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Senior Morgan Proffitt scored in her first game of the season, and the Columbus North girls soccer used a second-half spurt Thursday evening (Sept. 27) to post a 3-0 victory over Batesville in its regular-season finale.
Proffitt, one of the team's top players in 2011 who had missed all of the 2012 season prior to Thursday because of a knee injury, capped a three-goal second half with an unassisted goal in the 71st minute as the Bull Dogs celebrated Senior Night by improving to 6-7-3 at the Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.
Junior Gabby Sims broke a scoreless tie in the 41st minute with a goal off an assist from senior Kaci Tompkins.
Junior Kenadie Carlson added an unassisted goal in the 47th minute, then Proffitt -- a Marquette recruit who produced 13 goals and five assists last season -- contributed her goal in the closing 10 minutes.
Senior Elizabeth James made four saves in posting the shutout.
Proffitt, Tompkins and James were joined by Evelyn Malcolm, Michelle Amlung, Malissa Hofmeister, Ellen Hacker, Emily Resnik and Rachel Hart as those recognized in the Senior Night program.
In the JV game, sophomore Micah Shoaf's goal lifted Columbus North to a 1-0 victory. Sophomore Kyra Dasovich collected 17 saves in her shutout.
