Martinsville defeats Columbus North 3-0 in volleyball

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Junior Tessa Krempel and sophomores Makinsey Summa and Karen Wildemann each produced five kills Thursday evening (Sept. 20), but the Columbus North volleyball team lost 3-0 to Martinsville in Memorial Gym.
Senior Quin Shoultz contributed two aces and 21 assists for the Bull Dogs (5-14), but the Artesians prevailed 25-10, 25-22, 25-17.
Sophomore Alexa Pelley notched 16 digs and Wildemann had 14 to lead the defense. Shoultz, Summa and Krempel each added one block solo.
"We played well the last two games," CN coach Caitlin Greiner said. "We came out sluggish and not mentally focused in the first game, and Martinsville capitalized on that by serving tough and making smart plays.
"In Games 2 and 3, we stepped it up and played more aggressively. Quin did one of the best jobs I have ever seen her do in running the offense and making smart setting decisions. This match was the best one all year, in that we came out and played like a team."
Columbus North returns to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 25) when it visits Scottsburg. The Bull Dogs follow with a home match at 7 p.m. next Thursday (Sept. 27) when they host rival Columbus East.
