Home » Girls' Golf NewsColumbus North girls golf earns spot in Evansville RegionalSeptember 17, 2012 Columbus North High School BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Sophomore Sydney Anderson shot a 73 on Monday (Sept. 17), leading the No. 16 Columbus North girls golf team to a third-place finish in the Bloomington North Sectional.
Senior Emily Morris and junior Sam McQueen each added an 87, while junior Lauren Backmeyer had a 90 for a team total of 337. That aggregate allowed the Bull Dogs to finish in the top three and earn a spot in the Evansville Regional, scheduled for noon (ET) Saturday (Sept. 22) at Eagle Valley Golf Course.
No. 6 Bloomington South won the competition with a 312, while No. 17 Columbus East was second with a 327 at Cascades Golf Course. Columbus North was third followed by Franklin (348), Bloomington North (363) and Indian Creek (378) in the nine-school field.
Bloomington South freshman Emma Fisher took individual honors with a 72, while Anderson was second with her 73. Bloomington South freshman Cherise Otter was fourth with a 74 and Columbus East junior Caroline Smith was fourth with a 75.
Hannah White of Franklin, Shelby Rush of Bloomington North and Erin Bush of Franklin qualified for the regional as individuals. They carded respective rounds of 77, 83 and 85.
Other schools that will join Bloomington South, Columbus East and Columbus North in the regional are Madison, Bedford North Lawrence and Salem from the Bedford Sectional; Evansville North, Evansville Memorial and North Posey from the Evansville Sectional; Jasper, Castle and Springs Valley from the Jasper Sectional; New Albany, Floyd Central and Corydon Central from the New Albany Sectional; and Vincennes Rivet, Gibson Southern and North Knox from the North Daviess Sectional.
The top three teams and the top five individuals not on advancing teams will qualify for the State Finals on Sept. 28-29 at The Legends of Indiana Golf Course in Franklin.
