Gonzalez's hat trick leads Columbus North boys soccer to victory

Columbus North High School INDIANAPOLIS -- Senior Tony Gonzalez produced a hat trick Thursday evening (Sept. 13), lifting the Class 2A No. 4 Columbus North boys soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Perry Meridian.
Senior Chris Gorbett also found the net for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 8-0-1 overall and 5-0-0 in Conference Indiana games.
Gonzalez's first goal off an assist from junior Andre Abedian helped CN to a 1-1 tie at the half in the game played at Mary Bryan Elementary School. Gonzalez's second goal off a feed from senior Brad Shaw snapped the deadlock, then Gonzalez made it 3-1 with an unassisted goal.
Gorbett added an insurance goal off a pass from junior Riley Belding.
Junior Ben Davis and senior Chase Francoeur each played one half in goal for the Bull Dogs.
Columbus North won the JV game 4-0. Sophomore Jerret Stark, sophomore Byron Barger, sophomore Andrew Gold and sophomore Edward Meyer each notched unassisted goals. Junior Matt VerPlank and freshman Preston Grimes split time as goalkeeper.
The Bull Dogs return to action at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Sept. 14) when the face Fort Wayne Canterbury in the opener of the Canterbury Invitational. CN follows by playing Northridge at 11 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 15) to conclude the event.
