Shaw propels Columbus North boys soccer past Pike 2-0

Columbus North High School COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Senior Brad Shaw recorded a goal and an assist Saturday (Sept. 8), helping the Class 2A No. 6 boys soccer team to a 2-0 victory over visiting Pike at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.
Shaw's goal came off an assist from senior Tony Gonzalez and snapped a scoreless tie in the second half of the Conference Indiana encounter. Later, Shaw fed junior Keaton Voegerl for an insurance goal as the Bull Dogs improved to 6-0-1 overall and 4-0-0 in league play.
Junior Ben Davis and senior Chase Francoeur split time in goal and shared the shutout. Davis collected four saves, and Francoeur made one.
Columbus North also won the JV game 3-0.
Junior Sam Meyercord, sophomore Brayton Thornburg and sophomore Jerret Stark scored for the Bull Dogs, while sophomore Byron Barger and sophomore Edward Meyer notched assists. Junior Matt VerPlank and freshman Preston Grimes teamed for the shutout. VerPlank had six saves, and Grimes two.
Columbus North is back in action at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 11) when it hosts East Central. The Bull Dogs follow by visiting Perry Meridian at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 13).
