Shaw's goal lifts Columbus North over Westfield in boys soccer

Columbus North High School COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Senior Brad Shaw scored the only goal Saturday (Sept. 1), lifting the Class 2A No. 12 Columbus North boys soccer team to a 1-0 upset of 2A No. 5 Westfield at the Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.
Junior Keaton Voegerl provided the feed, and Shaw finished the play as the Bull Dogs improved to 4-0-1.
Junior Ben Davis recorded a shutout for CN. He was credited with eight saves, while his group of defenders also played strong games.
"Overall, our team is right where it needs to be right now," Columbus North coach Andy Glover said. "We face a challenging schedule, but our players are meeting those challenges both in games and in training sessions from the coaches. They are pushing each other to be the best we can be."
Earlier, the Columbus North JV claimed a 2-0 victory. Sophomores Jason Fier and Edward Meyer scored for the Bull Dogs.
Columbus North returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 6) when it visits Lawrence Central in a Conference Indiana game. The Bull Dogs follow with another CI game at 2:30 p.m. next Saturday (Sept. 8) when they host Pike.
