Lawrence Central defeats Columbus North 3-0 in volleyball

August 31, 2012
Columbus North High School

INDIANAPOLIS -- Sophomore Janelle Peters had five kills and junior Tessa Krempel had four, but it was not enough as the Columbus North volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at Lawrence Central.
Krempel contributed five aces and sophomore Hayley McMahan added four as the Bull Dogs dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in Conference Indiana with the 25-21, 25-19, 25-17 setback.
Junior Devon Roese notched a team-best 10 digs, while Krempel had seven digs and sophomore Alexa Pelley had six digs to pace the CN defense.
Sophomore Karen Wildemann produced 14 assists as the setter as the Bull Dogs played without senior Quin Shoultz, sidelined with a thumb injury. Wildemann also provided three kills, five digs and two blocks.
"Karen stepped into the setting role and did a great job leading the team," CN coach Caitlin Greiner said. "Makinsey Summa played an aggressive match and gave us a huge lift in the front row with her energy. Hayley's serving kept us in the match at times and allowed us to make some runs.
"Overall, I was pleased with our effort. There still is a lot of work to be done to shut down teams during close matches. We allowed LC to go on long scoring streaks, which ultimately cost us the win."
The teams split the sub-varsity matches.
Lawrence Central took a 25-16, 25-23 win at the JV level. Freshman Chase Leslie paced the Bull Dogs with five kills and freshman Avery Wendel notched three aces.
The Columbus North freshmen captured a 25-21, 25-2 victory over the Lawrence Central "C" team. Olivia Teague notched three kills, while Sydney Talkington had eight aces, four assists and served for 20 consecutive points during one run. Hannah Kelley contributed three assists.
Columbus North returns to action at 9 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 1) when it faces Connersville in the North Central Invitational. The Bull Dogs play Park Tudor and North Central later Saturday in the same event.
