Sims' hat trick propels Columbus North girls soccer

Columbus North High School COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Junior Gabby Sims produced a hat trick Wednesday evening (Aug. 29), leading the Columbus North girls soccer team to a 4-0 victory over visiting Franklin Central.
Sims put the Bull Dogs on the scoreboard in the game's ninth minute, scoring off an assist from senior Malissa Hofmeister.
Sophomore LauraAnne Watanabe made it 2-0 before the half off a feed from Ellen Hacker, while Sims added two second-half goals as Columbus North improved to 3-2-1 overall and 2-1-0 in Conference Indiana. Junior Kenadie Carlson assisted Sims in the 44th minute, while sophomore Riley Perry assisted in the 48th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Elizabeth James made 11 saves in posting her third shutout of the season.
Franklin Central won the JV game 4-1. Sophomore Micah Shoaf scored off an assist from sophomore Laura Britt for the Bull Dogs.
Columbus North returns to action at 6:45 p.m. Friday (Aug. 29) when it faces Tates Creek (Ky.) in its opener of the Zionsville Invitational. The Bull Dogs follow with two games in the event on Saturday (Sept. 1) -- vs. Mount Notre Dame (Ohio) at 9:45 a.m. and vs. Lexington Catholic (Ky.) at 4:45 p.m.
