August 29, 2012
Columbus North High School

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Sophomore Karen Wildemann knocked down 11 kills and classmate Janelle Peters chipped in nine kills Tuesday night (Aug. 28), but it was not enough as the Columbus North volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Franklin Central.
Wildemann added team highs of three aces and 14 digs, but the Bull Dogs fell to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in Conference Indiana.
Sophomore Makinsey Summa and junior Tessa Krempel each contributed seven digs, while junior Mara Krempel had two blocks as the Flashes prevailed 25-5, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20.
Senior Quin Shoultz produced eight kills, four digs and 19 assists.
"We started out slow, letting some silly mistakes get the better of us," CN coach Caitlin Greiner said. "But we fought back and gave Franklin Central a run in the final two games. Quin did a nice job of running the floor and putting up a good set even while being injured, and Karen Wildemann served aggressively.
"I changed the line-up tonight, and the girls did a nice job playing unfamiliar positions."
Seniors Grace Reidenbach and Tia Blackley paced Franklin Central with a combined 19 kills -- 10 for Reidenbach and nine for Blackley. Blackley also was a force at the net with seven blocks, while junior Abby Titzer contributed five blocks and sophomore Skylar Muckway had three blocks.
Sophomore Elizabeth Moore recorded eight digs, while senior Bailey Campell had seven and senior Lizzy Pedigo had six. Senior Mackenzie Lotter notched 23 assists for the Flashes.
Franklin Central also won the JV and freshman matches.
The Flashes took the JV match 25-12, 25-17, although Mara Krempel notched three aces.
FC claimed the freshman match 25-20, 21-25, 15-8. Anne Marie Kiel paced the Bull Dog rookies with five killls, while Hannah Kelley had six assists and Sydney Talkington posted five assists.
Columbus North returns to action at 7 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 30) when it visits Lawrence Central in another Conference Indiana match. The Bull Dogs follow by competing in the North Central Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 1). There, CN will play Connersville, Park Tudor and North Central.
