Home » Boys' Tennis NewsColumbus North boys tennis tops Plainfield 5-0August 20, 2012 Columbus North High School COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Junior Luke Red posted a straight-set win at No. 1 singles on Monday (Aug. 20), leading the Columbus North boys tennis team to a 5-0 victory over visiting Plainfield.
Senior Ernest Xi and sophomore Mitchell Miller also won in straight sets at No. 1 doubles, while the other CN wins came by 2-1 set scores as the Bull Dogs captured their season-opening dual match.
Red knocked off Plainfield's Brock Naaman 6-1, 6-1, while Xi and Miller defeated the Quakers' Blake Bush and Michael Bohney 6-2, 6-1.
Freshman Rahul Jha and sophomore Anthony Sanders captured other singles wins, while junior Krishan Narsinghani and freshman Aditiya Mantri prevailed in doubles.
Jha rallied to defeat Plainfield's Jack Cavanaugh 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, while Sanders beat the Quakers' Evan Rink 7-6 (9), 4-6, 6-4. Narsinghani and Mantri also came from behind, beating Plainfield's Zach Eggleton and Jacob Hopper 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The CN junior varsity went 6-0 in its matches.
"This was a good first dual match for the team," CN coach Kendal Hammel said. "We still made too many unforced errors and got lazy on our shot selection at times, which caused us to go three sets in match positions.
"A nice plus for us was that positions came back and played hard in third sets to win all the team spots. Plenty to improve on, but a good start to the season."
Columbus North returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 23) when it visits Bloomington North in its first Conference Indiana match.
