JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. -- Freshman Aditiya Mantri and junior Krishan Narsinghani placed second at No. 2 doubles to lead the Columbus North boys tennis team to a tie for fourth place in the Jeffersonville Invitational that concluded Saturday (Aug. 18).

      Their placement was the highest finish for the Bull Dogs, who totaled 23 points and tied with host Jeffersonville in the eight-school flighted event that began Friday (Aug. 17) and concluded Saturday. Teams earned points based on results in each singles or doubles match.

      Jasper won the event with 41 points, while Bloomington North and Evansville Memorial tied for second with 26 points each. CNHS and Jeffersonville were deadlocked for fourth, while Delta placed sixth with 21 points followed by Zionsville with 14 and Centerville with six.

      Mantri and Narsinghani defeated opponents from Centerville and Delta to advance to the championship match of their flight, but they dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to junior Ben Seng and senior Aaron Nordhoff of Jasper in the final.

      Sophomore Anthony Sanders placed third at No. 3 singles and junior Luke Red was fifth at No. 1 singles for the Bull Dogs.

      Sanders beat Zionsville junior Nick Cervac 7-5, 6-2 in the first round before falling to Evansville Memorial's Nate Lox 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals. He concluding by defeating Jeffersonville freshman Brock Winchell 6-1, 6-2 in the third-place match.

      Red dropped his first-round match to Evansville Memorial's Eric Schuette 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. But Red rebounded for two wins in a row -- 6-1, 6-1 over Centerville senior Eric Josephson in the consolations semifinal and 7-6, 6-7 (4), 6-2 over Delta junior Bradley Wuthrich in the consolation final.

      Senior Ernest Xi and sophomore Mitchell Miller placed sixth at No. 1 doubles, while freshman Rahul Sha finished seventh at No. 2 singles for Columbus North.

      The Xi-Miller tandem dropped their opener to a Delta duo before beating a duo from Centerville. Xi-Miller then lost the fifth-place match to freshman Sam Coward and junior Chase Kayrouz of Jeffersonville 7-5, 5-7, 7-5.

     Sha was defeated in the first two rounds by opponents from Jasper and Zionsville. He recovered to defeat Centerville senior Jacob Thompson 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-0 in the seventh-place match.

      Columbus North was runner-up to Jasper in the JV division. The Wildcats placed first with 37 points with the Bull Dogs next with 29. Zionsville was third with 27 followed by Delta with 26 and Jeffersonville with 24.

      Columbus North returns to action at 5 p.m. Monday (Aug. 20) when it hosts Plainfield in its first dual match of the season.
