STRATHAM, N.H. -- Columbus North rising junior Christian Fairbanks shot a 77-81--158 over two rounds of qualifying that concluded Tuesday (July 17) in the U.S. Junior Amateur golf tournament at the 7,125-yard Golf Club of New England.
That performance left Fairbanks outside the event's top 64 and not advancing to the match play portion of the event set to begin Wednesday (July 18).
The 2010 champion, Jim Liu, 16, of Smithtown, N.Y., Shintaro Ban, 16, of San Jose, Calif., and Nicolas Echavarria, 17, of Colombia, completed 36 holes at 3-under-par 141 to share stroke-play medalist honors at the par-72 layout.
Carter Jenkins, 17, of Raleigh, N.C., Andrew Bonner, 17, of Ripon, Calif., and Zechen Dou of the Peoples Republic of China finished one stroke behind at 2-under par 142 in the tournament that began with 156 competitors.
One player from Indiana -- Adam Wood of Zionsville -- survived the cut. He shot a 76-72--148.
Others from Indiana who did not advance were Will Seger of Jasper (77-78--155), Keegan McKinney of Avon (77-89--166) and Dylan Meyer of Evansville (72-DQ).
Match play will continue through Saturday. A 36-hole final between the last two golfers will decide the champion.
