COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Sophomore Shannah Hercamp went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and senior Taylor Fisher went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs on Thursday (May 24) to lead the Columbus North softball team to an 11-2 victory over Bloomington South for its second consecutive sectional championship.

Juniors Alex Whirley and Shelby Lucas contributed three hits apiece for the Bull Dogs (18-11), who pounded out 19 hits en route to their fourth sectional crown in six years. Seniors Sydnee Jackson and Michelle Murphy each had two hits, while senior Emily Scheidt, freshman Kelsay Lucas and sophomore Molly Crowe had one hit apiece.

Columbus North advances to the regional round where it will visit Franklin Central (22-6), winner of the Center Grove Sectional.

In the sectional final, the Bull Dogs jumped on top with two runs in the first, made it 3-0 in the fourth and broke the game open with five runs in the sixth.

Fisher and Hercamp each knocked home one run in the first, while Murphy had an RBI single in the fourth. Crowe singled and Murphy reached base on a sacrifice attempt to ignite the big sixth inning -- Whirley following with a two-run double and Fisher then blasting a two-run homer over the right-center field fence.

Murphy, Whirley and Fisher each scored insurance runs in the top of the seventh, while the Panthers (15-10) countered only with single runs in the fourth and sixth.

Crowe (11-8) pitched a complete game for the Bull Dogs, scattering 10 hits while striking out three and walking none. Bloomington South freshman Olivia White, who yielded eight runs and 12 hits over 5 1/3 innings, suffered the setback.
