Home » Baseball NewsColumbus North baseball splits doubleheader at ConnersvilleMay 21, 2012 Columbus North High School CONNERSVILLE, Ind. -- The Class 4A No. 4 Columbus North baseball team split a doubleheader at Connersville on Saturday (May 19).
In the opener, Jesse Harris had two doubles, a single, three RBIs and scored twice in the first two innings as the Spartans batted around in both en route to a 13-6 victory.
Robby Keegan added three hits and two RBIs for the hosts. Also, Chris Westerfield had two hits and three RBIs, Darik Short had a double, a single, scored once and drove in one, and Jake Davis had a double, scored twice and drove in two.
Connersville did not score another run in the game, but hurlers Short and Harris pitched well enough as the Spartans ended a seven game skid that dated to May 5. Freshman Devin Mann went 3-for-4 and classmate Cody Burton was 2-for-2 to lead a 12-hit attack for Columbus North. Sophomore Dylan Cowan started and suffered the setback on the mound.
Things turned around in the second game, however.
Burton, junior Andrew Golinvaux and seniors Mickey Bell, C.J. Dennis and Braden Pelley each had two hits as the Bull Dogs prevailed 12-5.
Bell contributed three RBIs and Dennis had two, while Mann was 1-for-4 with three runs.
Sophomore Christian Glass allowed five runs on three hits over 5 2/3 innings to pick up a win in his varsity debut on the mount. Senior Hunter McIntosh finished, allowing no runs and just one hit over the final 1 1/3 innings.
The Bull Dogs (20-2) return to the diamond at 5:30 p.m. Monday (May 21) when they visit Ben Davis in a varsity-only contest. They follow with their regular-season finale at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (May 22) against Bedford North Lawrence.
CN opens sectional action at 6 p.m. Wednesday (May 23) against Shelbyville at Bloomington North.
