      Kyle Kamman and Allie Smith received top athletic honors during the Columbus North Senior Awards program Wednesday (May 16).
     Kamman, a varsity letterman in football and basketball, was presented the Dr. Maurice McKain Mental Attitude Award after he demonstrating exemplary sportsmanship, mental attitude and scholarship throughout his four years at Columbus North.
     Smith, a varsity letterwinner in golf, tennis and cheerleading, was the recipient of the Josephine Armuth Award that also takes sportsmanship, mental attitude and scholarship into consideration.

Kamman, a quarterback in football who is headed to Ball State, has been named named to the South team for the Grange Insurance Indiana North-South All-Star Classic. He earlier was named first-team all-Conference Indiana, Indiana Football Coaches Assocation all-Region 10, honorable mention all-state by the Associated Press, IFCA Academic All-State and a top Scholar-Athlete by the National Football Foundation's central Indiana chapter.

In basketball, Kamman was honorable mention All-Area, honorable mention IBCA Academic All-State and co-winner of CN's Behrman Big Dog Scholarship.

     Smith was a first-team all-Conference Indiana choice and advanced to the regional in golf last fall. Last season, she was a first-team all-Conference Indiana pick and a first-team all-state selection as a junior with this year's selections yet to be determined.
     The awards are named after McKain, a former local physician for many years who served as Columbus High's team doctor and trainer in the 1930s, and Armuth, a longtime educator who gave years of dedicated service to Columbus High students.
     The McKain Award has been presented since 1940; the Armuth Award was initiated in 1974.
     Reed and Larson also were among 21 CNHS seniors who qualified for Senior Athletic Awards. This honor is presented to any senior who has earned six or more letters in at least two sports while a student in Grades 9-12.
     Joining Kamman and Smith as Senior Athletic Award winners were Corey Bland, Will Bowman, Kelsie Carlson, Andrew Diehn, Trace Fetterer, Jaclyn Gill, MacKenzie Harris, Jaewon Jung, Christopher Kelsey, Audrey Lewis, Rachael Miller, Michelle Murphy, David Powell, Julie Reece, Emily Scheidt, Erin Shuffett, Michael Sublette, Macey Thornburg and Laurel Wolfe.

In addition, 71 seniors were recognized as CN Scholar Athletes (9.0 GPA over seven semesters) and/or Conference Indiana Scholar Athletes (9.5 GPA over seven semesters). Those honorees included:
