Columbus North High School Columbus North junior Morgan Proffitt has been selected to the training pool for the USA Soccer Under-18 Women's National Team.
Proffitt, a midfielder who has committed to attend Marquette University beginning in the fall of 2013, scored 13 goals and contributed five assists during the 2011 season for CNHS. Her performance helped the Bull Dogs to a 20-3-0 season that saw the squad advance to the Class 2A semistate final before falling to eventual state champion Carmel.
Columbus North girls soccer also won sectional, regional and Conference Indiana championships last fall.
After the season, Proffitt was chosen team MVP, first-team all-Conference Indiana and first-team all-state by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association.
As for her upcoming national team experience, Proffitt will begin by participating June 2-10 in a National Team Training Camp in Chula Vista, Calif. She is one of 42 players nationally selected for this opportunity. Following the training camp, Proffitt could be called to represent the USA in various international events.
Proffitt, who will be a senior for the 2012 CNHS girls soccer team for first-year coach Derek Stewart, was notified of her selection to the Under-18 national pool by Bre Tosti, Youth National Team Coordinator for the U.S. Soccer Federation.
