Pelley, Parker Shelton propel CN baseball past Franklin Central
April 19, 2012Columbus North High School
COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Senior Braden Pelley hit a three-run home run and classmate Parker Shelton pitched a four-hitter Wednesday (April 18), leading the Class 4A No. 11 Columbus North baseball team to a 7-1 victory at Franklin Central.
Pelley's third-inning blast was the big blow for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in Conference Indiana. The home run drove home seniors Hunter McIntosh and CJ Dennis, who had reached base via an error and a single, respectively.
Shelton, meanwhile, struck out 12 while walking four to improve to 2-0 for the season.
CN opened the scoring with a run in the first when McIntosh was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored and a Dennis fly ball was misplayed for an error.
The Bull Dogs extended their lead to 2-0 in the second before Pelley's shot pushed the count to 5-0. CN pushed its edge to 6-0 later in the inning, then added an insurance run in the seventh when Dennis scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Preston Shelton.
Parker Shelton's biggest jam came in the bottom of the first when a Franklin Central (5-2, 1-1) runner reached third with nobody out. But the next two batters popped out, and Shelton recorded his first strikeout to end the inning.
Columbus North returns to action at 5 p.m. Friday (April 20) when it hosts Hauser.
