CN's Ballard helps South win in 4A junior girls All-Star Challenge

      LEBANON, Ind. -- Columbus North junior Hanna Ballard scored two points and grabbed four rebounds Saturday (April 14), helping the South team to an 83-79 victory over the North in the Class 4A junior girls game of the Indiana Elite All-Star Challenge.
     Bloomington North junior Shai Warfield scored 29 points to lead the South squad and earn game MVP honors. Warfield made six field goals, including four 3-pointers, and 13-of-14 free throws en route to her game-high output for a South squad coached by East Central's Kevin Moore.
     Westfield juniors Amy Shedd and Jenn Anderson contributed nine and eight points, respectively, while Greenwood juniors Deauna Evans and Chloe Orrvar each scored seven points.
     Munster junior Anika Gasich and Hamilton Southeastern junior Jessica Pongonis each tallied 15 points to lead the North squad that was guided by Crown Point's Annie Equihua and McCutcheon's Jeff Knoy. Hamilton Southeastern's Taya Reimer, Lowell's Katie Bobos and Fishers' Taylor Potts each chipped in 10 points for the North.
     CN's Ballard added one assist, one block and one steal while playing about 20 minutes of the 50-minute running-clock contest.
     The game was one of 16 over two days in Jim Rosenstihl Gym at Lebanon High School. Girls games on Saturday included Class A juniors, 2A juniors, 3A juniors and 4A juniors followed by Class A seniors, 2A seniors, 3A seniors and 3A seniors. Games on Sunday (April 15) followed the same pattern for boys.
