Home » Track & Field NewsCaldwell, Sollman and Kelsey lead Columbus North track at Miracle MileApril 14, 2012 Columbus North High School INDIANAPOLIS -- Two girls and one boy from Columbus North each placed in the top 16 of the Miracle Mile runs on Friday evening (April 13) as part of the Franklin Central track and field showcase.
Sophomore Mackenzie Caldwell placed 14th and junior Rachael Sollman was 15th in the girls' mile with respective times of 5:11.75 and 5:11.98, while CN senior Christopher Kelsey finished 16th in the boys' mile in 4:21.40.
"I went out a little fast, but it feels OK," Caldwell told The Republic. "I'm happy with my final time."
Sollman felt she could have done better.
"Coming down that last 400, there was so much I had left in me to give that I should have used earlier and not held back," she said.
Kelsey went out quickly and led early, but he could not hold on.
"I feel that it's to my advantage to push the pace early so I'm not forced to kick as hard because I can't kick with a lot of these guys," Kelsey said. "It was a shock for my system going out a little bit faster."
Franklin Central senior Jason Crist won the boys' race in 4:11.59. Eastern (Howard) junior Bethany Neeley captured the girls' crown in 5:00.00.
Other finishers for Columbus North in the boys' event were senior Michael Sublette, 24th in 4:23.50, and senior Andrew Diehn, 40th in 4:32.61.
Columbus North girls also included senior Laurel Wolfe, 47th in 5:28.84, and junior Caryn Wolfe, 48th in 5:28.94.
Three CN boys were in the freshman mile. They were Kyle Newland, 24th in 4:56.23; Seth Williams, 27th in 4:56.85; and Chase Ballard, 35th in 5:01.72.
Columbus North returns to action at 11 a.m. Saturday (April 14) in the Midwest Prep Invitational at Lawrence Central.
