Patberg voted MVP of Columbus North girls basketball

      Columbus North freshman Ali Patberg was named MVP of the Bull Dogs' 2011-12 girls' basketball team at the team banquet Thursday evening (April 12).
      Patberg, who averaged 12.9 points while adding 5.8 rebounds and a team-best 3.9 assists rebounds for a 23-4 squad, was one of seven players to receive presentations in the season-ending gathering in the school cafeteria.
      Senior Becca Brougher, juniors Hanna Ballard and Quin Shoultz, sophomores Tayler Goodall and Kelsey Cunningham and freshman Macy Wingham also were recipients of special awards for a Bull Dogs' squad that finished its season at Class 4A state runner-up.
      Brougher was recognized as winner of the Bull Dog Award, while Ballard was presented the Spirit Award. Goodall received the Most Improved Award, while Shoultz and Cunningham each received Sensational Six awards.
      Wingham was the recipient of the Martha Kalb Memorial Award, which goes to a JV player who displays characteristics of determination, teamwork, persistence and heart.
      Brougher averaged 4.1 points and 4.5 rebounds while regularly defending each opponent's top post player, while Ballard averaged 8.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.4 steals.
      Goodall contributed 12.9 points and a team-leading 6.4 rebounds, while Shoultz chipped in 6.0 points and 5.0 rebounds. Cunningham averaged 5.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and a team-best 2.9 steals.
      Wingham topped the JV with a 7.7 scoring average while adding 2.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.1 steals. The JV finished 17-3, while the freshman team closed 12-1.
      Earlier, Patberg and Goodall were selected first-team all-Conference Indiana while Ballard and Shoultz were chosen honorable mention all-conference.
      Patberg and Goodall also were recognized as honorable mention Underclass All-State by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. Also, Patberg was chosen High Honorable Mention All-State by the Associated Press and Goodall was picked Honorable Mention All-State by the AP.
      Patberg, Goodall, Ballard and Shoultz were chosen first-team All-Area by The Republic. Cunningham and Brougher were picked as honorable mention All-Area by the newspaper.
      Brougher was cited as honorable mention Academic All-State by the IBCA and the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association.
