GREENSBURG, Ind. -- Junior Rachael Sollman and sophomore Mackenzie Caldwell each was part of two meet records Saturday (April 7), headlining the Columbus North track team efforts in the Greensburg Relays.
Sollman ran legs on 4x800 and 4x400 relays, while Caldwell was a part of the 4x800 and the distance medley relay.
Those were three of four meet records set by CN athletes -- a Bull Dog boys' quartet established a mark in the boys' distance medley relay.
Sophomore Aly Bowman and senior Macey Thornburg joined Caldwell and Sollman on the girls' 4x800 unit that won in 9 minutes, 45.7 seconds, while junior Kaci Tompkins, freshman Janelle Peters and sophomore Gabby Sims teamed with Sollman to take the girls' 4x400 in 4:09.9. Senior Laurel Wolfe, freshman Amelia Herrick and junior Caryn Wolfe exchanged the baton with Caldwell on the girls' DMR and crossed in 12:59.0.
Senior Michael Sublette, junior Blaike Travis, senior Andrew Diehn and senior Christopher Kelsey combined for the boys' DMR record with a time of 10:44.3.
"That 4x800 ran a tremendous race," CN girls coach Steve Tyler said. "We had solid legs by our first two runners, then Caldwell and Sollman race outstanding legs to get us to the meet record.
"Same thing by our 4x400. Tompkins and Peters put us in a good place to start that relay, then Sollman and Sims really ran great legs to get that meet record."
Columbus North claimed wins in six other events -- the boys' sprint medley relay, the boys' shuttle hurdle relay, the girls' sprint medley relay, the girls' 4x200, the girls' discus and the girls' high jump.
Freshman Tate Dillman, junior Jamaal Halliburton, junior Joe Gedeon and junior Paul Salee teamed for the boys' sprint medley win in 1:42.1. Junior Connor Millwood, senior Josh Imlay, sophomore Michael Vogel and Gedeon each ran legs on the boys' shuttle hurdle triumph in 1:06.1.
Junior Lindsey Britt, junior Jessie Freudenthaler, junior Chaevana Douglas and junior Malissa Hofmeister combined for the girls' sprint medley victory in 1:55.3. The foursome of Tompkins, Hofmeister, Peters and Sims seized the girls' 4x200 crown in 1:50.3.
Sophomore twins Tessa and Mara Krempel combined to claim the girls' discus title in 192-4, while freshmen Hannah Poindexter and Micah Shoaf jumped a combined 9-2 for the girls' high jump blue ribbon.
The Bull Dogs are back in action at 5 p.m. Tuesday (April 10) when they visit Seymour. Select team members will compete at 6 p.m. Friday (April 13) in the Franklin Central Showcase. Another group of Bull Dogs will compete at 11 a.m. Saturday (April 14) in the Midwest Prep Invitational at Lawrence Central.
