Five CN gymnasts picked to All-Area squad

Columbus North High School Five Columbus North gymnasts were honored on the All-Area team by The Republic, the newspaper announced Saturday (March 31).
Junior Danielle McDermott, senior Chelsea Stretshberry and junior Chelsea Wieland were selected to the six-member first team. Junior Emma Geilker and senior Torrie McClintic received honorable mention accolades.
Seymour senior Olivia Coomer was chosen All-Area Gymnast of the Year.
McDermott placed 13th in the all-around in the state meet, including a tie for ninth on bars. Her efforts led the Bull Dogs to a sixth-place team finish in the state meet. She also tied for 12th on vault with a 9.375, was 22nd on floor with a 9.050 and was 30th on beam with an 8.525 at state.
Stretshberry placed sixth in the regional all-around and 21st in the state-meet all-around. At state, she placed 18th on beam with an 8.975, tied for 19th on vault with a 9.300, was 23rd on floor with a 9.025 and was 38th on bars with an 8.000.
Wieland tied for 29th in the state meet all-around. She was 30th on bars with an 8.325, tied for 31st on beam with an 8.500, was 36th on floor with an 8.450 and tied for 36th on vault with an 8.825.
