COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Senior Corey Bland, sophomore Luke Teague and junior Zeke Gomez each produced victories, but those were the only highlights Wednesday night (Jan. 11) for the Columbus North wrestling team in a dual meet against rival Columbus East.

     Bland and Gomez scored pins, while Teague netted a decision but those were not enough as the Bull Dogs fell 42-33 to the visiting Olympians in Memorial Gym. The 'Dogs dropped to 8-14 in dual meets this season.

      Bland pinned East's Jimmy Fisher at 170 pounds at the 2:58 mark, while Gomez put the Olympians' Mitch Gilbert down at 4:36 of the 126-pound match. Teague defeated East's Logan Carpenter 6-2 at 182 pounds.

     Sophomore triplets Evan, Will and Cody Speaker all won by forfeit at 106, 113 and 120 pounds for Columbus North, but Olympian wrestlers took all the other classes.

     East's Mike Wyant (132), Trace Hacker (145), Tim Shuler (152), Clayton Ferguson (195), Yates Burkhart (220) and Bob McKee (285) all scored pins for the Olympians. Teammates Dan Nelson (138) and Kyle Stillinger (160) each claimed decisions.

     Columbus North returns to action Saturday (Jan. 14) when it competes in the Conference Indiana meet at Perry Meridian. Action is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. The Bull Dogs placed fifth in last season's conference meet, Bland finishing third at 171 pounds.

     Other holdover athletes from the 2011 meet include Gomez, fourth at 119; Cody Speaker, fifth at 105; junior Sawyer Smith, fifth at 152; sophomore Jacob Lashley, sixth at 130; senior Eli Teague, sixth at 189; Evan Speaker, seventh at 103; and Tyson Clark, seventh at 285.

     Perry Meridian is the defending conference meet champion.
