Crete -Monee wins by 1 against Rich East

February 15, 2011
By Wyideopen Video Productions of Wyideopen Sports

There was nothng pretty about this win.  Rich East wanted this one and it showed.  The Rockets held a 7 point lead in the first quarter until the Warriors broke the ice with 2 from Greg Mays to make it 7 to 2 Rockets.  It stayed close through the 1st quarter.  There was a huge monster slam by Rich East to give them the momentum.  It would have been all Rich East but jamee Crockett and Greg Mays began to go to work.  Crockett ended with 20 plus points again and Mays grabbed 13 rebounds to go along with his 14 points.  Crete got a huge 3 ptr from Marvie Keith down the stretch and received two big buckets from Jordan Perry to keep Crete at arms length from suffering what would have been a back breaking loss for the conference leaders.  Rich East was playing the spoiler tonight and they almost pulled it off.  The Rockets had 3 chances to put the game away with 36 seconds left.  But 2 missed free throws and a mad scramble for a lose ball at the end left only 1 second on the clock and Crete with the ball out of bounds.  Rich East played that last second as well as any and stole the in bound pass and put up a last second shot that hit the fron/left side of the rim and fell to the hardwood.  It was truly a great test of strength and courage for the Rich East kids and a gift from above for Crete who really were out played.  Crockett, Mays, Orris, Treadwell, and Keith all hit huge shots in this game.  Little did they know they would need every point, and every free throw to solidify this one.  This is the sign of a true team when you start winning as a team.  Which is what Crete did eventually tonight.
