CROSS COUNTRY: Weekly Update (08-25-2014)
September 2, 2014Cleveland High School
Great job during this first week of practice and a big shout out to Enrique for guiding everyone the first few days on his own. 54 different athletes attended at least one day and almost a dozen athletes attended every afternoon session. Our practice time begins at 3:40 Monday-Friday. I appreciate the communication from those who are still traveling with family and getting in their last summer adventures.
Thanks to you all who joined at the track this past weekend to assist with the track clean up. A lot of progress was made and the facility is looking the best I've seen in years. We have a lot to be proud of our facilities and it's one way we share with the community and host other schools.
We have a lot going on with the team this week...
Tuesday, the 26th- Spike Night at Foot Traffic, Sellwood location.
Wednesday, the 27th- Fall Sports Kickoff and Parent Meeting at CHS Track, 6PM
All athletes and parents are invited to the stadium. Rules, guidelines, expectations, and much much more will be shared. Hope you can make it.
Thursday, the 28th- Night Meet at Wilsonville High School
Uniforms will be given out at practice this week and will also be available at the meet if you are unable to get one sooner. Parking can be a problem, so carpool and arrive early. There is a shuttle from Lambs Thriftway if you want to park closer to I-5. Admission ($5 adults, $3 students) will be charged for spectators and they will have their concessions open. With the forecast of 88 degrees be sure to bring a water bottle and we will have more water available for refills. If you have not been at practice or been in communication with coaches then you will not be entered to compete in this race. The steeple race has been cancelled due to lack on entries. Plan on being to the stadium an hour prior to your event to be prepared for your race. Parents who want to run can pay a small fee and run in the open race.
Friday, the 29th- PIL Jamboree, 5 PM, CHS Track
The XC team will be working the concession stands for this event. A 50/50 raffle and Chinook Book sales will also be available. This is a great fund raiser for our team. We will still gather at the regular time of 3:40 for practice, although we will not be able to use the facilities upon returning. Travel light this day and don't bring anything that can't be left in a vehicle outside the stadium.
It's not too late to join our team. Invite your friends who want to be a part of our amazing program. As I mentioned earlier this week, we are a team that is competitive, social, and connected with the greater community. The goal is to be at our highest level of fitness on October 22nd, the PIL District Meet. Consistent training, adequate recovery, and developing a better endurance base will allow us to progress over the next several weeks.
Please take care of your paperwork: Blue Cards, Physicals or updated Clearance forms. Blue cards are at practice or the school office. Links for the other forms: https://multco.us/health/school-based-health-centers
