BASEBALL: Cleveland drops season opener to David Douglas

April 1, 2014
Cleveland High School

Cleveland varsity baseball took the field for the first time this spring on the road at David Douglas. The Warriors sent 6'7 senior Alex Sparks to the mound as their opening day starter. The Scots touched Sparks for a single run in the first. It took three innings until Cleveland produced a run. An inning later Cleveland added a pair of runs off back-to-back hits by catcher Alex Chaparro and Sparks. David Douglas responded with two runs of their own. The game remained tied until the seventh. A two-out error, sending runner to third, and base hit sealed the Warriors fate in an opening day 4-3 loss.

Cleveland sent four pitchers to the mound: Alex Sparks, Cray Hamilton Campbell Sparks and Eli Morse. The pitching staff struck out 11 and gave up seven hits. Warriors only produced four hits on the day: Chaparro, A. Sparks, Hamilton and Morse.

Jack Sampson will take the start against Parkrose HS @PHS 3/19 4:30. start time.
