SWIMMING: End-of-Season Recap

     The Cleveland swim team has been very busy the last 2 weeks.  They started off with the District Meet held at Dishman Pool on February 8 and 9 and finished with the State Meet on February 15 and 16 at Mt. Hood Community College.

At the District Meet, there were many personal records set as well as four district records.  (We also qualified 21 swimmers for the State Meet.)

     Several highlights for the girls team include:

• They set four new district records and qualified two relays and three individual events. 
• The first record set (also district champions) was the 200 Medley Relay with Emma Wren, Gabrielle Dewson, Ida Donohue and Anna West. 
• Another district record set (also district champions) was the 200 Freestyle Relay with Ida Donohue, Evelyn Heeb, Emma Wren and Anna West.
• Ida Donohue also set two individual district records, was district champion and qualified for state in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.  
• Anna West also qualified for state in the 50 Freestyle.

     On the boys team two relays qualified for the State Meet and four individuals qualified for events:

• The 200 Medley Relay that qualified for state included Tyler Soo, Nathan Kim, Joel Hwee and Steven Soo. 
• The 400 Freestyle Relay that qualified for state (also district champions) included Joel Hwee, Ben Mosberg, Steven Soo and Tyler Soo. 
• Steven Soo was a state qualifier and District Champion in the 100 Freestyle and also a state qualifier in the 50 Freestyle. 
• Tyler Soo wis a state qualifier and District Champion in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke.

At the State Meet (Mt. Hood Community College):

• The girls 200 Medley Relay team placed 11^th
• The boys 200 Medley Relay team placed 12^th.
• The girls 200 Freestlye Relay team placed 11^th
• The boys 400 Freestyle Relay team placed 10^th.

     On the final day of the State Meet, Ida Donohue stepped it up. She was seeded in 2^nd place in the finals for the 100 Yard Butterfly and blew away the competition. She had  an amazing swim and is the new STATE CHAMPION IN THE 100 BUTTERFLY.  She also earned a spot on the podium by placing 3^rd in the 100 Breaststroke.  "Way to represent Cleveland, Ida."

Several other Cleveland athletes competed at the State Meet in individual events:

• Anna West placed 8^th in the 50 Freestyle
• Steven Soo placed 11^th in the 50 Freestyle
• Steven Soo placed 11th in the 100 Freestyle
• Tyler Soo placed 8^th in the 100 Butterfly and 7^th in the 100 Yard Backstroke.
