Home » Girls' Basketball NewsGIRLS BASKETBALL: Team defeats Wilson 42-37 (1/4/2013)January 24, 2013 Cleveland High SchoolWednesday, January 09, 2013 By Molly Henninger (Article available from the Clarion here) Cleveland’s girls’ basketball team continues to take on tough teams and prevail, with their latest victim being crosstown rivals Wilson. The Warriors defeated the Trojans 42-37 in a clutch, last-minute pull through Jan. 4 led by senior Lydia Snodderly. Cleveland dominated the whole game, but only led by three points average for the whole game. They stayed in the game through a third quarter slump and came back stronger in the fourth quarter, making four clutch free throws in the last minute from sophomore Taylor Risvedt and Snodderly. The team claimed the win through strong zone and man on mandefensive efforts as well as keeping the intensity up, something that they dowell in every game. “We really motivate each other to make sure no one isbringing the team dynamic down in practice and in games,” said Kate Potter, a junior varsity player. Another obstacle that Cleveland cleared was the Wilson fans.Constant jeering from the home team’s fans made it hard to concentrate for allthe Cleveland teams that played at Wilson. Cleveland has won the last three meetings with the Trojans, who always are the Warriors’ biggest competition for the league title. All the games between the two teams have been close and their next match Jan. 31 at the Cleveland gym should be no different.
