The Tide scored early on when Glencoe senior James Burton took a short clear in and scored from 22 yards out on a hard shot to junior keeper Hubie Charman's right in the fourth minute of play. Cleveland dominated the remainder of the game, outshooting Glencoe 27-12, with 17 of those shots on goal. They won many balls at midfield and passed well, including setting up three breakaways for junior forward Mudy Abdikadir, but Glencoe keeper Ryan Farrell (Sr) stopped him all three times. Junior Braxton Griffith impressed the crowd with multiple throw-ins into the box, some from over 40 yards away, but the Warriors were unable to score despte a number of wild scrambles in front. These included a second-half rebound header by Mohammed "Mo" Abdikadir (Jr) where the goalie was beaten but a defender cleared the ball as it was about to cross the goal line, and a first-half header by junior Kevin Elliott McCrea which passed the keeper but was headed away at the last second by a Glencoe defender. Mudy Abdikadir, senior Nick Van Marter, junior Daniel Merchant (who also beat the keeper but had his shot stopped by a defender) and junior Adrian Baures also had good scoring chances on outside shots. The defensive foursome of Janik Karoly (Fr), Charlie Clark (Jr), Kevin Elliott McCrea (Jr), and Collin Faunt (Sr) has performed very well the last two games, allowing only a handful of quality scoring chances. The team has created plenty of scoring opportunities in the last two games - now it only remains to put a few more in the back of the net and the Warriors will be on their way to another 5A title run. See video highlights at: http://highschoolsports.oregonlive.com/videoplayer/3654180/cleveland-vs-sherwood-highlights-9-2012/ The Warriors' next match is Tuesday against 5A rivals, the Corvallis Spartans, at Cleveland Stadium, 7 PM start time.
