ALL SPORTS: Cardiac Screening

January 6, 2012
Cleveland High School

Preregistration is underway for the October 20, 2012, cardiac screenings hosted by the Teen Athlete Cardiac Screening (TACS) program. The screenings, held in the Georgia Pacific Room of Memorial Coliseum, are for student athletes ages 13-19.

In the five years since the TACS program began, approximately 20% of the participants were not cleared due to a problematic history, an abnormal EKG, or an abnormal cardiac exam.

Volunteer cardiologists, pediatricians, nurse practitioners, EKG technicians and lay volunteers review each athlete's family history, determine height, weight, blood pressure, body mass index, and do an EKG and a cardiac exam.

Registration for this screening will begin in August 2011, but if you would like to be added to the preregistration list, be prepared to provide student name, date of birth and a current mailing address, then choose one of the following contact methods:

  • Send an email to LRS@LHS.org
  • Call (503) 335-3500 (Oregon)
  • Call (360) 487-3500 (Washington)

The David Heller Foundation sponsors the TACS program.
