Announcements for 5.22.14
May 22, 2014By Wynette Jameson of Clear Creek High School
Creek’s next SAT Prep Course is THIS Saturday (May 24). If you would like to register, come by before or after school to Mrs. Meeks’ room C-106. This is a change because it is usually to Mr. Fontenot’s room. Be sure to go to C-106. The cost of the class is $90. However, the class is in danger of being cancelled, so if you want in the class, stop by today to see if you can save it!
Mrs. Edna Meeks
You are invited to attend the annual Choir Pop Show is this Friday and Saturday night at 7PM in the CCHS Auditorium! Every staff member and teacher is eligible to receive a complimentary ticket to either one of the performances. Extra tickets are $10 each. Tickets may be picked up at the front desk or in the choir room. Checks can be made payable to CCHS Choir Booster Club.
The pop show is a production that involves all types of current and classic popular music, from some vocal jazz songs from the 50s to some of the most current releases. Students sing in large and small groups as well as numerous solos. Choreography and costumes fill out the visual aspects of the show.
Proceeds from the Pop Show go directly to the booster club, with a majority of the profits being used for senior scholarships and 9th-11th graders summer camp scholarships. Last year, the choir booster club gave away $3000 in scholarships, and we are hoping to match or exceed that this year.
Additionally, many choir alumni come to our Saturday night show so we can close with our annual performance of “Where No One Stands Alone.” If you’d like to see some alumni, come on Saturday. (And if you want to avoid seeing them, come Friday!) J
We hope to see you there!
And what would a choir announcement be without some celebrations?
Out of the 21 graduating seniors in choir, we have 5 who are going on to be music majors. Join us in celebrating the following:
Michael Skarke is going to Baylor on a FULL RIDE scholarship to study classical vocal performance. Baylor is one of the top music schools in Texas and is not cheap to attend, and we are thrilled that he won’t have to pay a penny for it.
Kelly Clark is attending Pepperdine University in California to study vocal music education. She has received more than $40,000 in scholarships.
Jenny Barosh is attending Abilene Christian University to study music ministry or vocal music education. She is receiving about $20,000 in scholarships and grants from ACU.
Hunter Ruhl is attending the University of Louisville to study vocal music education. Louisville has what is regarded as one of the finest college choirs in the United States, so this is the equivalent of one of our athletes signing with one of the big university athletic programs. Take a listen to this on YouTube, and keep in mind that Hunter will be in this choir in the coming years: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IKUpnymGfM
Laney Price is attending Sam Houston State University to study music therapy, one of the most respected music programs in the area.
Thanks for the continued support of our CCHS Choir program. Hope to see you at the Pop Show.
