Creek Choir had a wonderful showing at the annual UIL Concert & Sight Reading Contest held at Brazosport College on Friday. We sent 4 choirs to the contest – a non-varsity women’s choir, varsity women’s choir, varsity men’s choir, and varsity mixed choir. Each choir is judged by a total of 6 judges who score the choirs from 5 (Poor) to 1 (Superior). If a choir makes an average of ones in both concert and sight reading, they are awarded a coveted Sweepstakes trophy.
Mr. Stultz and I are excited to announce that all four choirs received straight ones from all 6 judges, which means all 4 choirs earned a Sweepstakes trophy. These are the highest ratings given by the UIL, and we are very excited that all of the judges recognized the high level of music making happening in all choirs of our program.
We have placed the recordings from Friday’s performances on the staff server if you are interested in hearing what these young people accomplished. Go to CCHS server>Shared>Staff>Choir>UIL 2014 Concert Recordings.
-Our choirs’ results were matched by only one other 5A school in the area, our friends over at Clear Brook. No other 5A choir program except for Brook and Creek received straight ones from all judges for four choirs, and no 4A or 5A choir program received more than 4 Sweepstakes trophies even though many choir programs took more than 4 choirs.
-A special note of congratulations goes out to Mr. Stultz. In his first year of teaching, in leading his choir to straight ones he accomplished what it takes many directors (me included) many years to do, and he co-directed the varsity men’s and women’s performances as well. Three Sweepstakes in his first year…that’s a pretty high standard to set for his future. J
We have so much to be proud of in these students. Please join me in congratulating them on representing our school and community at such a high level. And don’t forget to listen to their performances that we placed on the server to hear first-hand what these judges are talking about.
