On Saturday, eight choir students traveled to Deer Park HS to compete in the annual All-State Choir auditions.  Mr. Stultz and I are ecstatic to announce that all 8 students were selected for an All-State Choir. That's an incredible statistic that will be difficult to repeat again.

These students have been working on their audition music since last July, attending summer camps, making it through four rounds of auditions, and working daily on their audition material.  At Saturday's fourth round of auditions, our region combined with 3 other regions, an area that encompasses 1/7 of Texas, reaching from Lake Livingston over to Beaumont, down the coast to Brazosport, and then up through 3/4 of Houston and straight back up US59, and the top 10 women and top 8 men in each voice section make it into one of three All-State Choirs.  This is the highest individual achievement a high school choir student can achieve.

These eight students will travel to San Antonio in February and join the other choir members from across the state, rehearsing for 4 straight days with world-renowned conductors, participating in the TMEA convention including a college night, and culminating in a performance for an audience of thousands.  It is literally an event that changes these kids' lives, and we are absolutely thrilled that so many will get to take part in it.

Included in our celebration is that our students secured two of the eight first chairs and that Creek Choir will represent 10 percent of the choir from this TMEA Area even though we are only one high school in the TMEA Area.  Additionally, Creek has the most students in the choir from this TMEA Area – no other school in Houston or in the area described above came close to getting 8 students in the choirs.  We are also one of the top in the state. You can imagine how proud we are of these students.
Congratulations go to:

Aura Alden (junior) - 9th chair Soprano 2, All-State Women's Choir
Gina Sereni (senior) - 6th chair Alto 1, All-State Women's Choir
Cecilie Wahl (junior) - 5th chair Alto 1, All-State Women's Choir
Charlie Reader (junior) - 5th chair Bass 2, All-State Men's Choir
Jose Soto (senior) - 6th chair Tenor 2, All-State Men's Choir
Thomas McCulloch - 1ST CHAIR Tenor 2, All-State Mixed Choir
Michael Skarke - 1ST CHAIR Tenor 1, All-State Mixed Choir
Jesse Pilgrim - 4th chair Bass 2, All-State Mixed Choir

Thank you for your continued support of our wonderful Creek Choir.

James Park, Choir Director & A.P. Music Theory Instructor
