2013 Texas Choir All-Staters On Saturday at Deer Park High School, eight CCHS Choir students competed in the fourth and final round of auditions against the best high school singers from the Eastern region of Texas that includes all the districts from Livingston to Beaumont to Brazosport to Katy and Houston and everything in between. Six months of preparation and practice has led these young people to this final audition, and being selected to the All-State Choir is the highest achievement our Texas choir students can be awarded.
Damon Duckett – 2nd chair Tenor 2 (sophomore, 2nd-time All-Stater – All-State Mixed Choir) Nick Leach – 5th chair Baritone (senior, 1st-time All-Stater – All-State Men’s Choir) Jesse Pilgrim – 6th chair Bass II (junior, 2nd-time All-Stater – All-State Men’s Choir) Brian Ritter – 6th chair Baritone (senior, 1st-time All-Stater – All-State Men’s Choir) Michael Skarke – 6th chair Tenor 1 (junior, 2nd-time All-Stater – All-State Men’s Choir)
In February, Mr. Coffey and I will accompany these 5 young men to San Antonio where they will have 4 days of intensive rehearsal with their All-State Choir under the direction of two of the most highly regarded choral conductors in the nation, culminating in a concert in the Gonzalez Convention Center to an audience of thousands. It will be an incredible and life-changing experience for these young men, so please join me in congratulating them on their achievement!
CCHS Symphonic Chorale sings with the Houston Symphony this Saturday This Saturday, January 19, 2013, at 10:00 AM and again at 11:30 AM, at Jones Hall in downtown Houston, the CCHS Symphonic Chorale will be singing in performance with the Houston Symphony! At this Family Concert – titled Aladdin and the Arabian Nights – the symphony will perform family-friendly excerpts from standards like Sinbad the Sailor, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherezade, and two pieces in collaboration with the CCHS Choir (Carl Nielsen’s African Dance from his Aladdin Suite and 5 songs from Disney’s Aladdin). Additionally, in the Disney suite, four of our young singers – Jenny Barosh, Damon Duckett, Lauren Matthews, and Michael Skarke – will have their solo debut with the Houston Symphony singing “A Whole New World” in duet under the baton of Houston Symphony Orchestra Associate Conductor Robert Franz. This is a true joint effort with our Houston Symphony, and we are thrilled that our students have the opportunity to be featured prominently alongside the highest-caliber professionals who make up our Houston Symphony Orchestra and conductor.
If you’d like to read the Galveston Daily News article on the upcoming performance, click on: http://www.galvestondailynews.com/education/article_9e619630-5e0b-11e2-a337-0019bb30f31a.html. CCHS Symphonic Chorale performs complete Vivaldi Gloria in collaboration with CBHS Symphonic Chorale One week later (call us crazy!) on January 25, 2013, at 7:30 PM, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, the CCHS Symphonic Chorale and the Clear Brook HS Symphonic Chorale (Jon Marcum, director) will combine in performance to present the entire Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi, one of the all-time great choral masterpieces. Accompanied by a professional orchestra made up primarily of CCISD orchestra directors (including our very own Kysha Bradshaw!) as well as featuring soloists by the choir directors of CSHS, CFHS, and CLHS, this unique CCISD collaboration promises to be special in many regards.
This performance is free and open to the public, and we hope to see you there!
CCHS Choirs performs at the Toyota Center before Houston Aeros Hockey Game On February 1, 2013, at 7:00 PM, in the Toyota Center in downtown Houston, CCHS Night at the Aeros will happen when the combined choirs of CCHS will sing the National Anthem before a Houston Aeros hockey game and God Bless America at one of the intermissions. Students, friends, and family will stay to enjoy watching the game between the Aeros and the Texas Stars (the Dallas Stars minor league affiliate based out of Austin). The in-state rivalry should provide a great crowd, and we’d love to see you there!
If you are interested in purchasing tickets to the game, please purchase them through the CCHS Choir. We will Upper End Defense tickets for $17 per seat, and for every ticket we sell for our group, the Aeros will donate a portion of the ticket price back to the choir program. Ticket orders are due on Wednesday, so don’t delay! Please see the attached ticket order form and leave it in my mailbox if you’re interested in coming out on 2/1 to celebrate CCHS Night at the Aeros!
