Cambridge-Isanti USTA Team Earns Section Medals

August 1, 2011
By Lee Orvik of Cambridge-Isanti Girls' Tennis

It was an amazing ride for the Cambridge-Isanti USTA 18U Team.  After winning medals at the area championships, the team went up against the best 16 teams in their division from across four states.  On the first day of the USTA Northern Section Championships, the team won their way into the top eight.  After yet another great day of tennis, the C-I squad ended up earning medals for the consolation championship.

In their first match of the final eight, Cambridge-Isanti met a very talented team from Sioux Falls.  They lost to Sioux Falls, who eventually won the Northern Section Championship and will represent the Northern Section at the National Championships.  After a tough loss to Sioux Falls, the team of Bluejackets matched up with Coon Rapids.  They defeated Coon Rapids to earn their way into the consolation championship.

In the consolation championship Cambridge-Isanti faced Woodbury.  C-I took down Woodbury to earn their USTA Northern Section Medals.

Congrats to the team that went farther in the USTA Championships than any othe team from Cambridge-Isanti!  What a great summer of tennis!
