C-I USTA Team Makes Final 8 in Section Championships

July 27, 2011
By Lee Orvik of Cambridge-Isanti Girls' Tennis

The Cambridge-Isanti USTA 18U Tennis Team had to play the first day of the Northern Section Championships while short one player due to illness.  This meant they had to start each match down 8-0.  Despite this disadvantage, the squad of Bluejackets still made it to the final eight tomorrow!!!

Cambridge-Isanti went 2-1 in pool play on day one.  They would have had a good chance to go 3-0 under normal circumstances.  There were four pools in the tournament, and the top two teams from each pool made it to the championship round on Wednesday.  This means that Cambridge-Isanti made it to the top eight teams in their section tournament against teams from Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

In their pool, Cambridge-Isanti defeated teams from Apple Valley and Sioux Falls.  They lost a close match to the team that ended up winning the pool, Woodbury.  (All while going down 8-0 automatically to start each match!!!)

Good luck to the C-I Squad in the Championship Round!!!!!
