POLSON - With a dominant performance in the trenches, the fourth-ranked Polson football team secured a Northwestern A title on Friday.
The Pirates racked up 281 rushing yards and held Libby to 130 total yards in a 46-7 victory on a rainy night. Polson (4-0 conference, 7-0 overall) had the game well in hand by halftime with a 32-0 lead.
"One of the goals the guys set for themselves was to bring the conference championship back to Polson, and they played great tonight," Pirates coach Scott Wilson said. "We ran the ball real well and our offensive line did a great job. Then defensively we played outstanding."
Quarterback Vince DiGiallonardo played a big role in helping the Pirates build an 18-0 lead in the first frame. He opened the scoring with a 25-yard touchdown run, then followed up with a 46-yard TD run and a 43-yard TD pass to Justin Hoel.
DiGiallonardo finished with 111 yards rushing and 126 passing, completing 4 of 9 attempts.
Libby fell to 2-1, 4-4. Chase Hoyer scored the only touchdown for the Loggers in the third quarter on a 5-yard pass from Micah Germany.

At Bozeman, the defending state champs flexed their muscles in posting the Class AA victory.
Hawks quarterback Will Weyer was 23 of 32 in the air for 382 yards and four touchdowns. All of those came in the second quarter, when Bozeman (2-6) outscored the Braves 29-0 to pull away.
Will Dissley caught three touchdown passes and Hunter Gappmayer ran for a pair of scores for the Hawks.
Matt McLean caught a pair of third-quarter touchdown passes from Matt Tokarz for Flathead, which fell to 3-5.

At Kalispell, the fourth-ranked Wolfpack raced out to a 21-0 lead and held off the Bison to win the Class AA matchup behind 341 passing yards by quarterback Taylor Hulslander.
The key moment came in the second quarter when Glacier, clinging to a 21-14 lead, scored on a 90-yard pass from Hulslander to Andrew Nelson.
The Wolfpack (7-1) took a 28-14 lead into halftime and held Great Falls (3-5) to one score in the second half. Glacier finished with 389 total yards to Great Falls' 314.

At Belgrade, the Northwestern A Bulldogs scored on five of their first six possessions and rolled to the nonconference Class A win.
Bryce Wehrli had the first two scores of the game for Whitefish (4-3). He began the scoring with a 19-yard touchdown reception before returning an interception 35 yards for another score.
Connor Donahue threw three touchdown passes for the Bulldogs, the longest a 53-yarder to Logan Harwood in the third quarter. Harwood finished with three TD receptions.
Colter Davis had a 20-yard touchdown run for the Panthers (1-7).

At Frenchtown, the Broncs denied Columbia Falls on two two-point PATs in the final three minutes of play to secure the Northwestern A win, their first of the season.
The Broncs (1-2, 1-6) led 22-7 early in the fourth quarter on a pair of 1-yard TD runs by Logan Fisher and a 5-yard scoring run by Brydon Peacock.
Columbia Falls (0-3, 2-5) got back into the game on a pair of TD passes by Austin Barth, who finished 16 for 38 for 20 9 yards with three interceptions. But the PAT run after both TDs failed, leaving the Wildcats just short.
Daniel Lebsock led the Broncs with 81 yards rushing on 15 carries. Ryan Anderson added 59 yards on 10 totes.

Troy (1-2 conference, 1-6 overall) struck for four unanswered touchdowns in the first quarter. Cory Orr started the onslaught with a 54-yard run to paydirt. Quarterback Gabe Hickman followed with a TD pass and run and Orr finished the first-quarter barrage with a 20-yard scamper.
Hickman finished 7 for 12 passing for 56 yards and two touchdowns.
Plains (0-4, 0-7) scored both of its touchdowns after spotting Troy a 52-0 lead. Tanner Ostrom did the honors each time on passes from Eric Rummell.

Zach Tameler ran for a pair of scores and Kyler Clinkenbeard added a 2-yard scoring plunge for the Warriors, who took a 34-0 lead into the second quarter.

Mac Bignell had two rushing touchdowns and returned a fumble 28 yards for another score.
The Trojans also received a 20-yard TD pass from Bignell to Dan Mannix.

At Alberton, in a battle of Western C six-man unbeatens, fourth-ranked Alberton used its powerful ground game to outlast third-ranked Hot Springs.
The Panthers (4-0 conference, 7-0 overall) had reason for concern when running back Matt Foley went out with a concussion in the third quarter. But his teammates picked up the slack in the rain.
"We didn't pass too often tonight but our ground game was phenomenal," said Alberton coach Jake Giffin, whose team totaled 347 rushing yards. "It was a great game for our guys."
Foley finished with 181 yards rushing on 19 carries with two touchdowns. Teammate Cody Ishler threw for 113 yards and two touchdowns and had a 59-yard run for a score.
Hot Springs (3-1, 6-1) was led by Mike Gray with 224 yards rushing on 20 carries with one touchdown. Teammate Tanner Hoff passed for 116 yards and had a nine-yard interception return for a touchdown.

At Philipsburg, Barrett Stanghill had a monster evening in the Prospectors’ Western C win.
Stanghill rushed 46 times for 414 yards and eight touchdowns as Philipsburg improved to 2-6.
He also threw five passes for 60 yards and a touchdown and returned an interception 20 yards for a score.
Phil Shield caught a 46-yard TD pass for the Prospectors.
For Darby, (1-7), Jeremy Campbell threw a 67-yard TD pass to Dylan Knox.
