Girls - Polson 4, Bigfork 0
At Bigfork on a soggy afternoon, Halloween came several weeks early for Polson senior Madeline Hewston, who opted for the trick when she rang the doorbell of the Valkyrie goal thrice. Her feat of the foot, otherwise referred to as a hat trick, turned out to be quite the treat to boot. With the victory, she and her Lady Pirate teammates (4-7-0 overall, 3-4-0 conference) punched their ticket into the playoffs as the third seed after several years absence from participation in postseason endeavors. Frosh phenom Sarah Howell contributed the other goal to round out the scoring. All goals were unassisted. Senior Lady Pirate Makenzie Wegner was the recipient of an unexpected accolade - the Bigfork Sportsmanship Award for outstanding play in the spirit of athletic competition. Apparently it is a Bigfork soccer tradition after each game to confer such an award upon a player from each team who exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship in both their conduct on the pitch coupled with their athleticism. The Valkyrie recipient for game sportsmanship was goal keeper Alexandra Dillon. Polson closes out their regular season campaign by hosting Libby early Saturday afternoon, 8th of October.
